Puget Sound Adventist Academy is a Seventh-day Adventist high school with grades ranging from 9 through 12. It was established in 1997 after being expanded from Kirkland Seventh-day Adventist School's Junior-High Program. The principal is Doug White. There are approximately 93 students attending^{[citation needed]}. The school offers 4th-year math class in Precalculus and physics, and four years of English, including journalism and speech^{[citation needed]}.

Connect

The Campus Ministries program includes a "Connect" trip taken near the beginning of the year designed for students to get to know each other more, to enhance their relationship with Christ, and to participate in community outreach^{[citation needed]}. In 2007 "Connect" lasted from August 29 through August 31. Mission trips in past years (with building projects) have been completed in Mexico, India, Honduras, Kenya, Costa Rica, and Fiji. After Hurricane Katrina, a relief mission trip to Mississippi also took place near Waveland, Bay St. Louis, Pearlington and Biloxi. In late 2006 another mission trip took students, staff and parents to the Dominican Republic. This fall of 2008 they will embark to Mexico again working with an orphanage^{[citation needed]}.

The PSAA Choir

The school offers Band and Choir as Fine Arts classes. The Annual music tour included participation in the Canadian Airlines Rocky Mountain Music Festival and Music in the Park, and trips to Bay Area, Canada, California, and most recently the Oregon coast. The band is directed by Doug Spencer. Over 80% of students are in either band or choir^{[citation needed]}. The Choir is directed by Colleen Radke^{[citation needed]}. There is also a select choir named IMPACT directed by Estyn Goss. They have toured in Europe, Alaska, and Brasil.

Choir and band start at 8:25 A.M. and last 45 minutes^{[citation needed]}. Morning block classes, starting at 9:15, are 90 minutes, while afternoon classes meet for 45 minutes^{[citation needed]}. Classes include Washington State History, Contemporary History, History Through Film & Literature, Health, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, General Science I, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, PE I, PE II, Spanish I, Spanish II, English I-IV, Journalism, Speech, Keyboarding, Computer Literacy, Multimedia, and a required 4 years of Bible/Religion class. 220 credits for regular diploma, 240 credits for college-prep diploma. Lunch starts at 12:30 and ends at 1:05 when the afternoon classes resume^{[citation needed]}. Extra curricular classes in the afternoon are after regular afternoon classes, starting at 2:45 and ending at 3:30 An on-campus lunch is available for $3.00^{[citation needed]}.

The teachers and staff at PSAA are committed to providing students with high academic standards. The small classroom sizes allow teachers to give more one-on-one attention to students. Teachers also believe a student's success is based on the spiritual life as well as the social and academic. The teachers at PSAA are an integral part of school activities including community service projects, mission trips, history tours, music, and athletic events. At PSAA students will have the opportunity to interact with their teachers gaining new perspectives and achieving new goals.

Doug White has been involved^[clarify] in Adventist education for 31 years^{[citation needed]}, and has served as Puget Sound Adventist Academy’s principal for 11 years. He is a graduate of Walla Walla College with a B.S. in P.E. and an M. of Ed. in athletic administration from Seattle Pacific University. His goals for PSAA students are to prepare them for service here on earth and for a life throughout eternity; to develop positive relationships with each other and teachers and a saving relationship with our Savior Jesus Christ. He believes the opportunity to get to know students individually, to provide a safe environment, and to provide opportunities for students to grow spiritually are just some of the advantages of serving in an Adventist academy.

A few weeks ago Doug White announced that he would resign as principle of PSAA and move to Spokane where he can get reacquainted with teaching and closer to his family. This news not only buzzed the school but through-out the area where alumni and previous staff members were located.

Just this Friday^[when?], Mr. White was honored in the "Shark Tank" along with the staff. As the teachers were called up one by one, Doug White was last called with a standing ovation. There and then White expressed his feelings about his years spent at the academy with words that sent wishes to meet again with students, staff, friends and family to an eternal place, heaven. His words meant a whole lot to the people who were greeted daily by his goodmornings, the employers he negotiated with, the students he taught, the boys he coached, the kids he played with, and a school he loved. This event was part of the Teacher Appreciation week, the Campus Life Connected, and the history of Puget Sound Adventist Academy.

Gail Orr is a graduate of Pacific Union College with a BA in psychology. She has taught for 34 years. For the last 11 years she has served as Puget Sound Adventist Academy’s vice-principal, registrar and guidance counselor. She keeps students on track for the required graduation credits and assists them in their pursuit of higher education. Helping students explore career options is rewarding for her. Her goals for the students of PSAA are for them to discover their spiritual gifts and to explore how these gifts may be of service to others. She says, “I would like for students to know above all else that they are of utmost importance to God—nothing will ever separate them from His love for them and that He has a wonderful plan for their lives.”

Jessica Stone is a graduate of Walla Walla College with a B.S. degree in Physical Education and minors in Religion and Spanish. She is the Campus Chaplain, Spanish teacher, and Junior Bible teacher. Her goal for her students is to teach practical knowledge that can be applied to a Christian lifestyle.

Vladimir Bokov holds a degree in theology from Andrews University^{[citation needed]}. In his fifth^{[citation needed]} year at Puget Sound Adventist Academy he is the technology director, and teaches multi-media. His goals for his students include their becoming comfortable in a technical world where everything is going digital. His goals for staff include utilizing the latest technology for the classroom at a highly competent level. He also serves as a junior class sponsor.

Doug Spencer is the Music Department director and teaches band and instrumental music at PSAA. He is a graduate of the University of Washington with a B.A. in Music Education and has taught music for over 40 years. He has taught band and instrumental music at PSAA for 11 years. His goals are to prepare his students to become proficient on the musical instrument of their choice while introducing them to a wide variety of sacred and secular music literature for a lifetime of music appreciation and enjoyment. Mr. Spencer coordinates the music performances for the music department at a variety of community, school, and church events. The PSAA Band and Choir plans an annual music tour to various destinations for 4 to 9 days that is both educational and fun filled. He encourages you to visit the music department , and to consider attending PSAA for a Christian education where we share Christ through our musical talents.

Anika Clark comes to us from Walla Walla College with a B.A. degree in English^{[citation needed]} and a minor in education^{[citation needed]}. She will be teaching English courses as well as Keyboarding and Computer Literacy. Looking forward to a positive year, her goal is to help foster a love for learning, for life, and most importantly, for Christ in her students and community.

Howard Munson is a graduate of Walla Walla College with a BA in History and M. Ed in secondary school administration. He has taught for 33 years. For the last 11 years he has taught Bible and history at PSAA. His goals for his students are for them to know God personally and to share and reflect His love to others. He also wants students to understand history and government so they can become tolerant and responsible citizens. He feels the greatest advantage of teaching in a Christian school is sharing Christ with his students, and watching them grow spiritually and mentally. Mr. Munson conducts a yearly Washington State History Tour and also serves as one of the Senior Class sponsors. In addition, he will be taking several students on a Civil War Sites Tour during the Spring Break.

Collen Radke, graduate of Walla Walla College, earned a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Mathematics and Music. This is her seventh year at Puget Sound Adventist Academy as the Mathematics, Physics, and Choir teacher. Mrs. Radke is actively involved as senior sponsor and varsity volleyball coach. Her enjoyments include piano, sports, cooking and friends.

Javier Krumm is a graduate of INEF (National Institute of Physical Education) College in Argentina with a B.S. degree in physical education and from Universidad Adventista del Plata with a M.A. in P.E. He teaches Freshman and Sophomore P.E., is the Athletic Director, and soccer coach. His goals for his students are for them to view physical activity as an essential part of life. Mr. Krumm hopes that through an active P.E. program students will be exposed to activities that will become part of lifelong habits and will continue to make choices that will contribute to long-term good health. He wants all participants of the athletic program to value the sport and physical activity from a Christian perspective.

Estyn Goss is the musical director of Impact. Mr. Goss comes to PSAA with a long history of teaching at the high school and college level. Mr. Goss obtained a B.A. in Theology from Walla Walla College before earning a masters in Music (vocal performance) from the University of Northern Colorado; He founded and led the semi-pro vocal group Consort Columbia for 10 years before taking a break from teaching. His goal in his 3rd year at Puget Sound is to help students develop a lifelong talent and passion for singing. Possible trips for this year’s singing group Impact are Alaska and also an exchange program with neighboring schools.

Sports activities include Boys Varsity Soccer, Girls Junior Varsity and Varsity Volleyball, and Guys/Girls Junior Varsity and Varsity Basketball teams^{[citation needed]}. The sports teams have won sportsmanship awards in Sea-Tac B League several times^{[citation needed]}. They meet for a tournament in Walla Walla for each sport in the Fall and Winter of each school year. The mascot is the Shark^{[citation needed]}.

Puget Sound upholds the 28 Fundamental Beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, such the Biblical seventh-day Sabbath, and belief in a healthy lifestyle, and a personal relationship in Jesus Christ as one's Lord and Savior^{[citation needed]}.
