PSMS Medan (acronym for Persatuan Sepakbola Medan dan Sekitarnya) is an Indonesian football club based in Medan, North Sumatra. They are one of the most popular clubs in Indonesia. PSMS Medan is simply known as PSMS and means The Football Unity From Medan and All Around in English.
PSMS is known for their rough, fast style of football play; a style typical to teams from Sumatra.
[edit] History
PSMS Medan is originally known as the Medansche Voetbal Club (MSV) in 1930. In 1950, the team was renamed PSMS Medan (Medan Football Club) to get rid of its colonial image and to create a team with local identity. The Deli tobacco is chosen as the club's logo as Medan is famous for its Deli tobacco plantation.
