As a promotion for the 2008 remake of Prom Night, MGM Home Entertainment released a new widescreen DVD of Hello Mary Lou on April 1, 2008.[1] The film was also recently released in Canada in 2003 as a full-screen DVD from Alliance Atlantis.

[edit] Plot

The movie begins with beautiful 17-year-old Mary Lou Maloney (Lisa Schrage) rushing to a church. She approaches a confessional where she confesses that she "disobeyed her parents, taken the Lord's name in vain and had sinful relations with boys at school many times." The priest replies that "these are great sins and she must prepare herself for the consequences." Mary Lou states she has one more thing to confess — that she loved every minute of it. The priest is shocked.

The film cuts to the Hamilton High School 1957 Prom. Everybody is dancing. Mary Lou is with Bill Nordham, a rich boy who gives Mary Lou a ring that has her initials. She asks him to get her a glass of punch. While he leaves, Mary Lou decides to go with bad boy, Buddy Cooper, to make out. They are caught by Bill and Mary Lou states she used him. Bill Nordham, hurt, goes to the bathroom to wipe off the punch Mary Lou threw on his white tuxedo. Two boys are supposedly planning a stinkbomb which they hide in a trash can. Bill, wanting revenge, chooses this as the best way to get back at Mary Lou. She is crowned Prom Queen, and Bill on the balcony above the stage throws the stink bomb below and accidentally sets Mary Lou's prom dress on fire. She dies and her spirit is held captive in a huge trunk.

The film then goes thirty years later to the life of a girl named Vicky Carpenter (Wendy Lyon), who is set to be the Prom Queen that year and is living an ordinary high school life with her friends. Everything goes well but changes when one of Vicky's friends, Jess Browning (Beth Gondek), is killed and Mary Lou, the dead prom queen of 1957, has returned. After her best friend's funeral, Vicky is grief-stricken and strange things are happening. She is seeing illusions about Jess and Mary Lou Maloney. After visiting a priest (Richard Monette) for a confession it is revealed that Mary Lou's spirit has come back from the grave and later possesses Vicky's body after tormenting her to obtain the crown. Being reborn through a magical door with Vicky's body. Mary Lou is now on a mission and will kill anyone who stands in her way.
