Priors Marston

Priors Marston is a village located in Warwickshire, UK 10 kilometres south west of Daventry. According to the 2001 UK Census the population of the parish is 506, most of which live in the village. The name Priors refers to the fact the village used to belong to Coventry Priory. The Mars is from the word “Merse” refering to the lake which formed a fish farm in the early days of the village and the ton means settlement.
The village has an independent primary school called The Priors School. The school was originally a state school, opened in 1847. However in August 1996 the school was forced to close. After only a month of fundraising however the school re-opened, this time for fee paying pupils. The Parish Church is dedicated to St Leonard and the original one was built in 1313. The current church is part 17th century and part 19th century. The village, being remote, only got a mains supply electricity in 1934 and of water in 1948. The village hall, called Priors Hall is modern and is a joint venture with Priors Hardwick. It can cater for up to 250 people and the offices of five local businesses are based there. It also acts as a cinema showing around two films per week. The village also has a Post Office, a Sports and Social Club and a children's playground. The Oxford Canal and Jurassic Way both run nearby.
