[edit] History
Prairiewood was once a part of Wetherill Park. The area was subdivided and developed in the 1970s as Prariewood Estate. It later became a suburb and took on the name of the estate. [1]
[edit] Housing
The suburb is divided between upper and lower Prairiewood, with each area signifying different house values. Upper Prairiewood begins at the top end of the golf course near the club house, whilst lower Prairiewood is on the showground end, next to the local swimming pools. They experience different real estate prices because Upper Prairiewood experiences better geographical views and are generally located on an elevated position. House prices are below the Sydney average.
[edit] Commercial Areas
Stockland Wetherill Park is a major shopping centre that is actually located in the north-western corner of Prairiewood. Fairfield Hospital moved to Prairiewood in 1988 from its original location in Fairfield.

Fairfield Showground is home to many cultural celebrations and the Fairfield Markets, which are a common attraction every Saturday morning.
