Powelliphanta gilliesi montana, known as one of the amber snails, is a subspecies of large, carnivorous land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusc in the family Rhytididae.

[edit] Distribution
This subspecies is endemic to the South Island of New Zealand. It is found on the Wakamarama Range, in the West Nelson area.

This snail lives around tussock clumps.
[edit] Shell description
This species is similar to other subspecies, but the whorls are more inflated, more tightly coiled, the spire more depressed, and the umbilicus narrower and steeper sided. The shell has a finely granulated parietal callus.
Major diameter is up to 52 mm, and height up to 28 mm.
