Poul Hübertz Knudsen (born September 21, 1976) is a Danish professional footballer currently searching for a club after being released by English League One side Northampton Town. Hübertz has previously played for Danish Superliga clubs Herfølge BK and AaB. With his long legs and unelegant style, he is known in Denmark as a somewhat atypical striker. He is also known as "the Hübbonator" amongst his fans. He is not afraid to finish from any angle and has made the zero degree finish his own.
Port Vale chairman Bill Bratt once accused Hübertz of playing a part in the melee leading to the red card given to Vale's left back Jason Talbot on Saturday 24th March 2007 (Port Vale vs. Millwall 2-0). Bill Bratt called Poul's actions "unforgivable".[1]
The reason why is that the Hübertz ran over 30 yards to the referee was, to say his piece about a foul on his teammate (Ryan Smith's altercation with the perpetuator Jason Talbot) thus provoking the red card to the Vale man. [2]
But some people think Hubertz did the right thing because Jason Talbot had kneed Ryan Smith in the face.
Hübertz was very popular with the Millwall fans and was most effective when he came off the bench in the final 20 mins of a game. Hubertz had said that he would like to extend his Millwall contract but was not wanted by Millwall manager Willie Donachie.
He joined Northampton Town on an initial 12-month deal in August 2007. Hübertz scored his first goal for the Cobblers in a 1-2 defeat at home against Yeovil Town on 25 August 2007. At the end of the 2007-8 season, despite being the club's top scorer, Northampton decided not to offer Hubertz a new contract and so released him.
