Template talk:Politicsboxend

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Please keep the link to the politics portal in. Electionworld 22:25, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

I think the politics portal is cause the page to show up on Special:CrossNamespaceLinks . You might have to change it to a URL. Fplay 04:48, 12 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Srewing up

Davidcannon: which templates will be screwed up if the width is broader? Electionworld 13:39, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

In particular, some double templates like Template:History and Politics of Fiji. That template contains two other templates, which are supposed to be of equal width. Making your politics box wider makes the Politics template wider than the History one, which is very uncosmetic. A number of other problems arose also; I was able to fix those, but not this one. I don't think templates at the side of the page should take up a huge chunk of the screen width, anyway. David Cannon 20:41, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
I noticed that you reverted the use of politicsboxend at that template. I think that is the right thing to do. If the template doesn't fit in a certain box, let's not use it in that box. Electionworld 21:26, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Proposed Change

Why is this page protected? I figure it's a high-use template, but I don't get why semi-protection isn't adequate. Anyway...

I propose a change to the following:

|-
 |align=left|See also [[History of {{#if: {{{countryspace|}}} | {{{countryspace}}}}}{{#if: {{{country|}}} | {{{country}}}}}]]
 |-
 |style="font-size: 95%; padding: 0 5px 0 5px;" align=right|
 [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Template:Politics_of_{{#if: {{{countryunderscore|}}} |
        {{{countryunderscore}}}}}{{#if: {{{country|}}} | {{{country}}}}}&action=edit edit]
 |}

The effect of this is to create an option of using either:

{{politicsboxend|country=Australia}}

or

{{politicsboxend|countryspace=New Zealand|countryunderscore=New_Zealand}}

This change is to avoid unsightly occurances of "See also History of the_British_Virgin_Islands", so that it is "See also History of the British Virgin Islands". Occurances of the old form — many of which will not need to be changed because they're only one word anyway — will remain, in effect, unaffected (i.e. no disruption is caused by the change).

An expert might want to check my code (I've checked with sandboxes to make sure it works, but I've only just figured out how to use if-then statements in templates). You can try it out by reverting Template:X1 to this version, and then checking out this version of Template:X2.

(Initially, I tried using "{{politicsboxend|country=New Zealand}}", and then I realised it screws up the "edit" link.) Neonumbers 02:15, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

I will unprotect the template. Electionworld = Wilfried (talk 22:33, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. Neonumbers 00:01, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Country portal

Any chance of adding a little bit of code so that both the politics portal and the portal of the relevant country appear at the bottom? Something like, eg:

That would only be possible if every country has its portal. Electionworld = Wilfried (talk 20:53, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
