[edit] Biography

Pink Bullet was formed originally as an experimental joke in 2001 on behalf of faux-singer David Evans, accompanied by schoolmates Chris Bartlett (guitar), Sam Hardy (drums), Christian Hopper (guitar) and Maurice Moynihan (bass). Using an empty office space in the industrial district of Brendale, the members managed to put together a rough collection of three songs and recorded an EP under the guise of PTO. Bartlett and Moynihan wrote the vocals for the EP the night before the recording session after both overdosing on guaranĂ¡ tablets. The resultant recording was somewhat of a tragedy (though many disagree) and led to the indirect dismissal of David Evans. The remaining members stayed together as an instrumental band, briefly adopting the name Empire. It was during this period of experimentation that the members discovered the unique dynamic evident in their style of music today.

Seeking to once again write more accessible music, the band eventually turned to friend and vocalist Brett Marks to fulfil singing duties. The band was dubbed The Pink Bullet Faction. After a two year long period of intense incubation and experimental amateur recording, singer Marks displayed more of an afinity with the writing process than singing. This, coupled with outside commitments, would lead to his involvement as an occasional collaborator with the band. Around this time, personality conflicts also became evident, ultimately leading to dismissal of drummer Hardy and a brief hiatus among the remaining members.

The band was introduced to and subsequently recruited Julian Schwietzer, a Queensland Conservatorium trained drummer who had played with Marks in a previous alternative rock band. Following the absence of Hardy, the band required a new rehearsal space. Wizzard Rehearsal Rooms, located on the outskirts of Fortitde Valley would become the bands new home and prove to be creative hub fostering local acts such as The Butterfly Effect, Yves Klein Blue and Dead Letter Circus.

Schwietzer instantly solidified the bands innovative sounds and structures, mixing bouts of fast-paced Latin and jazz drum patterns, complimented by heavy metal influnces.

The band entered a further intense period of incubation which would see the members playing continuously for days in a soundproof, windowless room switching between a blacklight and a string of Christmas bulbs as a source of illumination. Shortening the name to Pink Bullet, guitarist Bartlett and bassist Moynihan took over combined vocal duties and began to toy heavily with synthesizers, vocoders and effects pedals, creating electronic tapestries and complex structures mixed with traditional rock and pop values.

In July 2006, multi-instrumentalist Ryan Barker joined the band to adopt the duties of supporting guitar, synthesizers and percussion. Barker's unique prowess with the microKORG saw the bands' overall sound take on a mock electro vibe.

As of February 2008, Julian Schweitzer left the band to dedicate more time to his rock band Sunflower. He has expressed an interest to maintain collaborative ties with the band as well as assisting with percussion in live performances. The position of full-time drummer was filled by Gerard Cockburn.
