A pier glass is a long tall mirror which is placed flush on a wall between two windows, often of the same shape and design as the windows themselves. This was a common decorating feature in the reception rooms of large 18th century houses. Examples can be found in the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles, Sanssouci Palace and many other notable palaces and houses of that era.
