Pennycomequick

Pennycomequick is the site of the former Devonport prison. Today part of the inner suburbs of the city of Plymouth in the English county of Devon.
It is mostly known for its eccentric name, taken locals believe from The Penny pub situated by the roundabout north of the railway bridge over Saltash Road. A Brythonic derivation of the name Pen y cwm coet, meaning the head of a wooded valley, or Pen y cwm gwyk, referring to the nearby creek, is possible. The roundabout is near the end of the former Deadlake, a sea inlet reclaimed to form Victoria Park.
Located in the area is one of Plymouth's main post office sorting offices and behind and above it is Plymouth railway station. To the north is the huge Central Park. The area is an assembly point for football supporters who only have a half mile walk to Plymouth Argyle soccer ground at Home Park. It is only a few hundred metres from the large retail city centre and barely half a mile from the sea.
