[edit] Berks campus history

From its beginnings as Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute to becoming part of the Penn State system in 1958, the Berks campus has experienced many changes. WPI occupied the original Sacred Heart Church building on Hill Road, where the McDonald's Restaurant now stands, from 1930 to 1958 when its facilities were offered to Penn State to establish Penn State Wyomissing Center, now Penn State Berks campus. It moved to its present Spring Township location in 1972. With the addition of the dormitories in 1990, Berks became a residential and commuter campus.

Student enrollment at Berks campus has increased steadily since 1972, when approximately 500 students attended. Today, there are 2,471 students enrolled.

Berks campus includes 15 buildings on 241 acres (1 km²) of land, and there are 100 full-time and 70 adjunct faculty members. Dormitories provide housing for 800 students.

[edit] Lehigh Valley campus history

The Lehigh Valley campus is Penn State's oldest continuous campus operation outside of University Park. Founded in 1912, the campus developed strong associate degree offerings over the years and in 1970 expanded its academic program by providing up to the first two years of most of Penn State's baccalaureate degree majors.

In 1972, the campus revised its academic plans to include continuing education programs in addition to its baccalaureate offerings. In 1978, the campus moved to its present location. Lehigh Valley campus includes two buildings on approximately 40 acres (160,000 m²) of land in Fogelsville. The Lehigh Valley campus offers baccalaureate degrees in Applied Psychology, Business, Information Sciences and Technology (IST), and Professional Writing. Students may also complete an associate degree in IST.

Currently, the Lehigh Valley campus has more than 700 full- and part-time undergraduate students. An additional 3,000 students enroll each year in continuing education programs.
