Paul Maher, Jr. is a teacher and author best known for his two published books about Jack Kerouac. Maher grew up in Kerouac's hometown of Lowell, Massachusetts, which he says provided the inspiration for his research and writing on the subject of that particular poet. Maher enlisted in the United States Navy and, after attending the University of Massachusetts and earning a degree in American Studies, became a high school teacher and writer. Maher has published three books; one a collection of interviews with Jack Kerouac, another a biography of the poet, and the third a work focusing on On the Road. His books have met primarily favorable criticism.
Maher currently has four books projected for future publication, including an in-progress transcription of one of Henry David Thoreau's as-yet unpublished notebooks.
