Paul Barker (born February 8, 1958 in Palo Alto, California), was bass guitarist, producer and engineer with the industrial metal band Ministry from 1986 to 2004. He sometimes uses the alias Hermes Pan. He joined Ministry in 1986 for the Twitch tour as a touring bassist, before which he was a member of The Blackouts with his brother Roland Barker and Ministry drummer Bill Rieflin. He became an official member on the classic 1988 album The Land of Rape and Honey. Although many Ministry collaborators came and went in the nearly two decade period after Barker joined the band, he and Al Jourgensen, as founder of the band, were the only continuous members. The dynamics between these two different personalities came to shape Ministry's sound, along with a number of side-projects which they were involved in together. As such, many fans were surprised by Barker's departure from the band in 2004 for personal reasons.
Since leaving Ministry, Barker has spent his time recording new material, producing such acts as I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness, and as one of the founders of the original Wax Trax! sound, returned to Chicago December 9, 2006[1] to DJ the first venue Ministry played, NEO[2] (2350 N. Clark Street, Chicago, IL).
Barker DJed, for the first time in over 15 years, classic Wax Trax! & his own prized collection of remixes[3]. He played a 5 hour long set to a packed audience of over 450 fans.
He has recently joined U.S.S.A. with Duane Denison (Tomahawk, ex-The Jesus Lizard) as bassist.
