Panchobh is a beautiful village in the Darbhanga district of Bihar. It is located at least 62 kilometers east from Darbhanga (District headquarters) and 12 kilometers east from its subdivisional headquarters Biraul on the bank of Kamla-Balan river in Bihar. one of the most undeveloped areas in India and the area which does not have electricity and proper road. Every year floods hit and damage this areas frequently in July. Flooded areas took "a long time" to dry out which lead to "all sorts of problems" like "financial disaster" as well as "human catastrophe". Agriculture is main occupation of the village. The Supaul Bazar is main business hub of the area where people from remote area come to marketing. There is lot of migrated birds which come here frequently during December to March in water logged places of the village. Mainly, these birds comes from Nepal, Bhutan, Pakistan, Tibbat, China, Siberia, Mangolia e.t.c.

Biraul is approx 45 km East of Darbhanga Town. The subdivision comprises six blocks :Biraul, Ghanshyampur, Kusheswarsthan, Kusheshwarsthan(East), Gaura Bauram and Kiratpur. Population of the subdivision as per 2001 census is 7,55,871 .

Majority of people in Goramansingh are Rajput by caste. They are very gentle and known for their hospitality. Beside them it has other cast like Kayasth, Dhanuk, Badhay(carpenter),Khatvay, Muslim, Nai, Dhobi, Kumhar, yadav and rarely Brahman.

[edit] Meaning Behind Naming of the village

The name of the village comes from two words Gora and Mansingh. Mansingh was an ancestor who came here many years ago. They made home and established his own sovereignty. He came from Sitalpur Pratapgarh, U.P.The word Gora comes from the word "Gauri", the name of the Mansingh's queen. Mansingh used to call her "Gora". Hence, the name Goramansingh. Few old villagers says, the word Gora comes from the "JHANDA GAARNA"(Set a flag on the ground).Mansingh made a castle in the village and he set flag in front of the castle when he came here. Hence the name Goramansingh.

1.Makarsankranti: It comes every year on 14 or 15 January. On the eve of this festival people of the village take holy bath in the pond in the winter morning. After that they ignite fire to warms their body.child enjoy taking special breakfast during warming his body. The morning breakfast on the day of Makarsankrati include sweets made by parched rice, flattend rice, tilkut, sugarcane, dahi (curd) e.t.c. The women performs puja in home and distributes prasaad among children & other members of family. Khichri is very important dish on this day. 2.Holi: On the eve of the festival people enjoy with different colour and gulal. The way of playing Holi in the village is somewhat different from its neighbouring area. Villagers first play Holi only with colour during 8A.M to 1P.M. After that they play only gulal till evening 8 p.m .Villagers handsack with each other and takes blessings from the elders during gulal spray. 3.vaisakhi Joor Sital:The festival always falls on April 14 just after Amavasaya of Chaitra month and marks the beginning of the new year. The Amavasaya of Chaitra month is the last day of Hindu year and on the next day begins the new year according to Hindu calendar. The festival is known as with various name in different parts of India. Vaisakhi in North India. Vishu in Kerala. People of mithila region know this festival as Joor Sital.Villagers of the Mithila region celebrates the festival in different way. On the day of the Joor Sital every elder guys get up early morning in each family. They give bless to every younger one. The way of blessing is that they take water(Jal) in bended palm(Htheli) and put their palm on the head of younger one at least three or five times continuously. People performs puja at home and mango garden. They offer Baasi (cooked food in night) Vari and Rice to god. Every child and young guys pour water on the dryland. They irrigate almost all plants, tree in their own garden. 4.chhath:The festival of the chhat falls on sixth day of the Hindu month of kartik (late October or mid November) in the Hindu lunar calendar every year. The chhath falls on the month of Kartik is known as Dala Chhath.Another types of chhath is Chaiti chhath which falls on the month of Chaitra (late April or mid May).The Dala Chhath is one of the holiest festivals for Biharis. The way of celebrating Chhath in the village Goramansingh is almost same to celebrating Chhath in through the Bihar. There is lot of songs dedicated to the Chhath festival.
