[edit] History
Panania station opened in 1931 with the opening of the East Hills railway line from Tempe to East Hills[1]. It initially consisted of an island platform serving a single track on the 'down' (or away from Sydney) direction. A track was provided on the 'up' (towards Sydney) side in 1985. The station building was of brick construction in the standard style of stations on the East Hills line, the ticket window originally faced platform 1 (serving trains towards Sydney), however this was later moved to face the entrance to the station. Access to the station was originally via a pedestrian level crossing over the tracks, but this was replaced by a long footbridge in the 1950s.[2] The station building has recently been painted in the current cream and green CityRail station colour scheme.
[edit] Platforms/Services
Usual service pattern sees 4 local trains per hour during weekday daytimes, and 2 trains per hour at night and weekends[3]. From 2010, it is proposed that Pananaia will be served by Campbelltown express trains, as the construction of the Revesby turnback will mean that local trains are turned back at Revesby rather than at East Hills[4].
