[edit] History

The history of Panachaiki began in 1891, when Panachaikos Gymnastikos Syllogos was founded. In 1894, a rival sports club, Gymnastiki Eteria Patron, was founded in Patras by former Panachaikos' members.[1] It was only in 1923 that both clubs came to an agreement and decided to merge, forming Panachaiki Gymnastiki Enosi.

Panachaiki is a multisport club, whose athletes have won several Olympic medals. Emblematic figures in Panachaiki's history are weightlifter Dimitrios Tofalos and Kostas Davourlis, leader of the great football team that impressed Greece in the seventies and took part in the 1974 UEFA Cup (fell against FC Twente in the second round).[2]

[edit] Stadium

The team's privately owned arena is the Kostas Davourlis Stadium, the capacity of which is 11.321 seats.
