Paloma Blanca

Paloma Blanca, or often credited as Una Paloma Blanca is a chart-topping hit song by Dutch band George Baker Selection released in 1975. It can be found in the group's fifth album bearing the same name. The single was also a moderate hit in the US in early 1976 (top 30 pop, #1 easy listening).

The song was composed by Johannes Bouwens, George Baker himself. The song's unique feature is a flute instrumental. The song was rumored to be linked to the abolition of fascism in Portugal, possibly due to its lyrics. Some believe that the song is actually about enjoying one's freedom.
The song title is in Spanish. It is translated in English as white dove.

The song had two versions. The first version was done by Jonathan King on the same year. It earned him an award for Best Record of the Year at the Ivor Novello Awards. The second version came thirty years after, with George Baker doing a solo version in 2005 for the movie Vet Hard. The song was also used in a 1982 movie, The Executioner's Song.
In 1993 the Croatian group Vatrogasci (Firefighters) made a parody of this song, translating it in croatian language (naming "Pekara") and making it in turbofolk arrangement.
Other versions were done by Demis Roussos and Slim Whitman.
Eddie Murphy sang a mangled version of this song as the character Buckwheat in a Saturday Night Live tv commercial parody. The song was misspelled "Una Panoonah Banka";what in spanish it translates to"a boosted twat".
With lyrics in Swedish by Hans Rytterström, the dansband Säwes scored a 1975 hit in Sweden with the song.
