Patrick Richard "Paddy" McCarthy (born March 31, 1983 in Dublin, Ireland) is an Irish footballer, currently playing for Crystal Palace.
McCarthy joined Leicester City in March 2005 for a fee of £100,000 from Manchester City. He had never played for Manchester City's first team but had enjoyed loan spells at Boston and Notts County during 2002 and 2003. Boston had made a bid to sign McCarthy on a permament basis in February 2003.[1]
Paddy became a favourite with the Leicester fans, due to his no-nonsense style of play, not really similar to what they had been used to from former legend, Steve Walsh, and in July 2006 was named club captain for 2006–07 season. He moved to Charlton Athletic for a fee of £650,000 on 6 June 2007.[2] He signed for Crystal Palace after a season at Charlton for an undisclosed fee in June 2008.[3]
