Our son is currently on Trileptal for the treatment of a form of epilepsy. After a consultation with his doctor, a recommendation was made to increase his dosage to 1200 mg. A day after we followed the new prescription, he experienced an instance of double vision, blurred vision, slight dizziness, and mild headaches. I would like to know if anyone else has had this similar experience and whether these side effects disappear soon enough.
- I don't know what to say, other than talk to your psychiatrist, and make sure your son is getting enough salt. That's a high dosage, but probably not uncommon in epilepsy cases. A5 20:03, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Has anyone noticed the following effect: trileptal tastes a little like whatever spice I last ate. If I had mint tea the night before, it tastes a little like mint. There is a strong spicy or burning taste, but behind it is definitely mint. If I ate cloves or cardamom, it tastes like cloves or cardamom. Etc. Do other drugs have this property? I was put on Trileptal (300mg x2) after a major car accident and the neurologist and psychologist had a diagnosis towards bi-polar. It has helped with the mood stabilization, but my mind is fuzzy as far as specifics go or paying attention for a long time. Going to the grocery store was strange as every box on the shelf was difficult to deal with or pay attention to. I was told it was a common side effect and noticed it wasn't in the list of side effects. Also there is a little tunnel vision when moving the head quickly side to side, sometimes the vision is warped on the periphery but focused in the center. -- User:Cvan 22:32, 24 January 2006
- Thanks for your contribution. Have a look at Drugs.com: Oxcarbazepine and find the ADVERSE REACTIONS section. The "confusion" or "concentration impaired" categories aren't that common compared to the others. However "fatigue" and "abnormal vision" could also be a factor in your ability to concentrate on the grocery boxes. These last two categories are more common and are listed in the Wikipedia article.

I would strongly recommend that folks who have questions about dosage and side effects do not look for answers here on Wikipedia. Please contact your physician with those important questions and do not make decisions based on what you read on the Internet.
