Oxana Skaldina Russian: Оксана Скалдина Oksana Skaldina (born 24 May 1972 in Zaporozhye, Ukraine) is a former Individual Rhythmic Gymnast. She started gymnastics at age 5, her first coach was Liudmilla Koval but, she soon moved to the Kiev rhythmics school of Albina and Irina Deriugina.
At the 1990 Goodwill Games, she won the All-Around title. With the break-up of the USSR, Oksana and her friend Alexandra Timoshenko, both coached by the coaching duo of Albina and Irina Deriugina, competed at the 1992 European Championships in Stuttgart, Germany for their native country, Ukraine. Oksana was 5th All-Around but, she still managed to win 3 apparatus golds.
Some weeks after the European Championships was the controversy about the team members for the upcoming Barcelona Olympics. The ex-USSR countries went to the competition as a Unified Team. Barcelona was Oxana's last competition and she finished 3rd All-Around, This was a very intense time as she was in tears just minutes after her last routine. It was reported that she was angry not to have been given the silver.
