[edit] History
The Owen Sound junior lacrosse team first appeared, statistically, in the second year of the short history of the Ontario Lacrosse Association's Junior "C" league. Led by future coach Mark Kazarian and heavily skilled David Cruikshank, the Satellites started a string of four straight finals appearances and three straight Ontario Junior "C" Championships. Competing against the Orangeville Stingers and the Orillia Lions, both future OLA Junior A Lacrosse League teams, the Owen Sound franchise was not short on competition.
After the 1979 season, the OLA-C folded into the OLA-B and with it came the Owen Sound Signmen. During the 1980 season, the Signmen won their first ever Ontario Junior "B" title and their forth straight league championship (3 Junior "C", 1 Junior "B"). Sadly, at their first stab at the National title, the Founders Cup, the Signmen lost out to the Alberta champion.
The next big season for the Owen Sound team came in 1993. Now under the name "Flying Dutchmen", Owen Sound finished the season in first place with a 20-2 record. In the Quarter-final, they swept the Guelph Regals in three games. In the Semi-final, the Dutchies swept the Elora Mohawks in four straight games. In the Final, the Dutchmen were challenged by the Orillia Kings for the league title. Although a tight series, the Dutchmen took the best-of-7 in 6 games. They went on to win the Founders Cup as National Champions.
Although 1994 was not a very good season for the Dutchies, the next few seasons were quite productive. In 1998, the Dutchies even won the West Conference's Regular Season with a 19-4-1 record, but failed to do much in the playoffs. 1999 until present could only be described as "rebuilding years". Although the team hasn't really done badly, they seem to be struggling to put together a season that could be viewed as a success. In 2006, they changed their name to the Rams.
