"Overload" is the debut single of the British group Sugababes, Jony Lipsey, Cameron McVey, Felix Howard and Paul Simm for their debut album One Touch. The song was produced by Lipsey, McVey and Simm and received a positive reception from music critics. It was released as the first single in the summer of 2000 and reached the top ten in the United Kingdom, where it sold 138,000 copies. It also reached the top ten in New Zealand and Austria, and the top twenty in the Netherlands and Ireland. In Australia the song reached the top thirty, remaining in the top fifty for four months. In Germany the song peaked at 3 and has been certified gold with sales over 150,000^[1] . The single later reached #112 on the best selling singles in the UK of 2000. In 2008, Overload reached #11 in iTunes Spain, because was included in the official album of Fama: A Bailar.

The music video for "Overload" was directed by Phil Poynter and filmed in London, England.

The video has no plot and is known for its fresh and simplistic style, a theme that they would continue in their early videos.

It features the group in a variety of ever-changing outfits, singing the song in front of a plain white background, either by themselves or together as a group.

The video clip for "Whole Again" released by Atomic Kitten in 2001 was criticised for its similarities to the "Overload" video^{[citation needed]}.

[edit] Critical response

"Overload" received a generally positive response from music critics. A review by Aidin Vaziri from Rolling Stone called the song "a pulsating, cool-headed R&B concoction" and praised the group for their mature sound which made "other girl groups...look utterly lightweight in comparison".^[2]

Debbie Guirand, in a review for ManHunt.com, called the song "catchy" and was impressed by the Sugababes' ability to write their own lyrics as they had done for "Overload".^[3] James Kimmitt, in a review for Drowned in Sound, was also impressed by the group's writing abilities and called the song "brilliant".^[4]

Although The Portland Mercury was not impressed by the Sugababes' debut album, giving it only two and a half stars out of five, the online entertainment website did give "Overload" positive reviews. The website called the song "joyously overwhelming" and gave it four out of five stars.^[5]
