This template is to tag fair use images which have been orphaned (i.e. are no longer used in any articles) but not replaced by any other image.

I've updated it to be in the style of {{no source}}. Category:Orphaned fairuse images is getting rather crowded.

- In the process of doing so without discussion you broke a half dozen automated tools. Thats no way to keep the crowding down. :) There is no techincal problem with having big categories, but on the other hand having many categories makes a database search much more costly and eliminates the use of 'related changes' to track pages which were untagged. Unfortunatly I had not watchlisted this page previously, so it took me a while to catch this. --Gmaxwell 00:53, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
- I'm going to re-implement the by-day category feature. I'll leave the main cat as for the benefit of automated tools, but untill the toolserver is back up and runing with real time enwiki data we need the subcats to be eable to deal with this in a timely fashon. --Sherool (talk) 13:32, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] template misuse
Please note that it is not proper practice to remove an image from an article in the middle of a dispute and add this tag to the image while tehre is a dispute going on about the use. Seek consensuse about the removal before applying this tag, don't use it to try to undermine consensus-seeking. Since this is curently happening for example for some Corfu images, I suggest that:
"It is not currently used in any articles."
be changed to :
"It is not currently used in any articles and is not subject to dispute. If a dispute arises, you must remove this tag until it is resolved."
to try to encourage more polite behavior. Jamesday 01:56, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
- Not needed. The image can be added back if there is a dispute, and the template removed. Stifle (talk) 15:20, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] What is the purpose of the setting the sort key to {{PRODKEY}} in this template?
It makes the images in this category randomly unsorted, and right now is causing it to be impossible to navigate to the third page of Category:Orphaned fairuse images as of 23 July 2006 (it just keeps looping back to the second page) DHowell 06:17, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Consider the following events:
Peerflix_Logo.gif was replaced by Peerflix2_Logo.gif
BJBot marked the first image as orphaned fairuse not replaced.
In the case of a replacement image being deleted because of lack of copyright tag there is very little or no time to restore the original image before deletion of the orphan. Propose extending the deadline. Pendragon39 20:34, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
