Orlando Bridgeman, 5th Earl of Bradford

Lieutenant-Colonel Orlando Bridgeman, 5th Earl of Bradford DL, JP (6 October 1873 – 21 March 1957), styled Viscount Newport from 1898 to 1915, was a British peer and soldier.

The son of the 4th Earl of Bradford and Lady Ida Frances Annabella Lumley was educated at Harrow School, London and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1896 and with a Master of Arts in 1903. He succeeded to his father's titles on 2 January 1915.

Bridgeman served in the 3rd Battalion of The Royal Scots, reaching the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. He fought in the Second Boer War, around 1900, and in the First World War between 1915 and 1917. In 1939, he was made Honorary Colonel of the King's Shropshire Light Infantry.

He was Private Secretary to two Prime Ministers, to the Lord Salisbury from 1898 to 1900, and to Arthur Balfour from 1902 to 1905. In 1919, Bridgeman became Government Whip, a post he held until 1924. He was further Deputy Lieutenant and Justice of Peace of Shropshire, as well as Deputy Lieutenant of Warwickshire.

Lord Bradford married Margaret Cecilia Bruce, daughter of the 2nd Baron Aberdare on 21 July 1904. They had five children:

• Lady Helen Diana Bridgeman (1907–1967), married 10 February 1930 (div 1962) as his second wife Sir Robert Henry Edward Abdy, 5th Baronet; her son is the present 6th Baronet.
• Lady Ursula Mary Bridgeman (1909–1912)
• Gerald Michael Orlando Bridgeman, 6th Earl of Bradford (1911–1983)
• Lady Anne Pamela Bridgeman (b. 1913), married Weetman Pearson, 3rd Viscount Cowdray on 19 July 1939; her son is the present Viscount Cowdray.
• Lady Joan Serena Bridgeman (1916–1935)
