Orchard Square is a small open-air court shopping centre located in Sheffield, England. It opened in 1987 and contains several stores, notably Zavvi (formerly Virgin Megastores), Clarks, Waterstone's (with an instore Costa Coffee), River Island, Subway, The Body Shop and TK Maxx (which replaced the original food court). The centrepiece of the square is a chiming clock with moving figures that depict Sheffield's cutlery trade. To mark the centre's 21st year, Orchard Square is being re-developed to facilate the expansion of the TK Maxx to a three-level 45,000 sq ft anchor store into space formerly occupied by the Stonehouse pub, 4 units between River Island and Waterstone's will also be expanded further into the square to expand the sizes of current stores and create space for 2 new stores including a large two-floor Starbucks Coffee with a first floor terrace providing extensive outdoor seating overlooking the square. The re-development is scheduled to be finished by October 2008, while retailers will begin trading in new premises shortly before Christmas 2008.[1]
