[edit] Cost

The price data is incorrect. Orbcomm satellites are priced at around 5 M$ per satellite. Please check your data. --unsigned

Got a source for that? --Interiot 00:46, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] All capitals?

Should this article be titled "Orbcomm" or "ORBCOMM"? Wikipedia:Manual of Style (trademarks) says that we don't necessarily give companies special treatment, unless their trademark is practically always used as the capitalized version. At http://www.orbcomm.com/ itself, the <title> uses "Orbcomm". Looking at the latest news headlines for the company, "ORBCOMM" is usually used, but there's not an insignificant number of headlines that use "Orbcomm". [1] [2] [3] [4]

Either way, it would be good to decide on a version, use it for both the article name, and for all references in the article, and leave it that way rather than changing it back and forth. --Interiot 06:42, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Do I count as a source? Both quotes are wrong. ORBCOMM satellites cost more than both of your figures combined. We prefer "ORBCOMM". Also, sorry about the copyright issue. I did not copy the text from yahoo...it looks like they copied it from us and put it on a page with a copyright notice. How nice.

ORBCOMM did not go public in October 2006. I corrected this and it has been restored back. We went public in November. You can verify this on our website or with NASDAQ.

Also, I don't see how the amateur radio references are valid in a description of my company...

Thanks.

If no other sources are available, you count as a tentative source, I guess, though it's generally difficult to verify that a given account on the Internet is definitely who they say they are, so Wikipedia much prefers to rely on reliable published sources instead.
Sorry for reverting some of your improvements, there were several issues with the previous version ({{copyvio}}, {{context}}, possible {{advert}}) that I was trying to fix, but ended up reverting more than I should have. Hopefully I've restored all of your factual corrections?
I also removed the "Amateur reception" section, since it seems to have {{howto}} and possibly OR issues... though I don't have a strong feeling on it, so others can restore it if they feel strongly about it:
Data transmisions from Orbcomm satellites can be decoded by amateurs using a simple VHF radio receiver (scanner) tuned to the band between 137 and 138 MHz to pick up the strong signals from these satellites. With OrbcommPlotter Software, an amateur can decode the telemetry and find out the positions of the satellites, their operational status and their uplink and downlink channels.
Regarding the intended capitalization of ORBCOMM, it would be more clear if its own homepage didn't use both capitalizations...
