Operation New Life

Operation New Life (April 1975 – September 1975) was the U.S. military evacuation of about 110,000 Southeast Asian refugees displaced by the Vietnam War out of South Vietnam. [1]
Two years after U.S. military involvement in the Vietnam War ended, assaults by the North Vietnamese Army began to threaten the American-backed government in South Vietnam. From April 4 to September 3, 1975, the operation, along with Operation Babylift, transited about 111,919 refugees to the United States through Guam, with about 93,987 of these refugees receiving asylum in the United States. Airlifts from Saigon Airport unloaded in Tin City on Guam at Andersen AFB. On Guam, refugees were processed at the confusing and hastily-set-up Camp Orote, which at its peak held a population of 39,331 and in the end, processed more than 90,000 refugees.[2]
During the second phase of the operation, 1,546 politically-sensitive refugees were returned to South Vietnam by ship in the Thung Tin One.[3]
