[edit] History
According to its authors, openFrameworks was developed:
(for) folks using computers for creative, artistic expression, and who would like low level access to the data inside of media in order manipulate, analyze or explore. That audience we felt was significantly underserved by the current crop of C++ libraries. openFrameworks FAQ, http://www.openframeworks.cc/faq
[edit] Related Projects
Its emphasis on "creative" uses draws parallels to Processing, but openFrameworks is geared more towards advanced users and performance-critical applications as opposed to Processing's "introductory" nature.
The authors also compare openFrameworks to OGRE, Irrlicht, SDL, and wxWidgets (formerly wxWindows).
[edit] License
openFrameworks itself is released under the LGPL. Libraries used by the framework each have their own license, but none are included if they are non-free.openFrameworks FAQ
