Armour of God II: Operation Condor (Chinese title: 飛鷹計劃) is a 1991 Hong Kong martial arts-action film, directed by and starring Jackie Chan. It is the sequel to his hit Armour of God. It was produced by Golden Harvest / Paragon Films. It was filmed primarily in Madrid, Spain and Morocco.

This film is even more akin to Indiana Jones than Armour of God, in that it features Chan's character Condor ("Asian Hawk" in the US release) battling against a former Nazi to retrieve gold from an abandoned base deep in the Sahara Desert. In one scene, Jackie escapes his persecutors in a zorb.

Because this film was released in the US several years before Armour of God, its US title is simply Operation Condor. When the first film was eventually released, it was somewhat confusingly given the title Operation Condor II.

[edit] Plot

Jackie (Jackie Chan), a secret agent (code-named "Condor"), is given the task of tracking down hidden Nazi gold. He teams up with Ada (Carol Cheng), a UN representative, and Elsa (Eva Cobo), the granddaughter of a Nazi officer linked to the hidden gold. They journey to North Africa to look for an underground base, where it is believed the Nazi regiment who handled the gold was buried alive. While searching for the hidden base, the trio must fight against ruthless treasure-hunters and the last surviving Nazi from the doomed regiment.

[edit] Versions

  • The film was originally released in Hong Kong in 1991. It had a Cantonese soundtrack and ran at approximately 106 minutes.
  • Later releases in Hong Kong and Japan briefly cut a couple of scenes.
  • Over six years later, in 1997, the "international cut" was released in the US with its title shortened to Operation Condor. It was released theatrically in North American screens by Dimension, a subsidiary of Miramax. This version was dubbed into English by General Screen Enterprises and approximately 15 minutes of footage was cut for pacing.
  • An alternative edit of the film, "Jackie Chan's cut" was released in the UK.
