Old Saybrook is a regional rail station located in Old Saybrook, Connecticut. It is served by both Amtrak and the Connecticut Department of Transportation's Shore Line East. Despite being located on the Northeast Corridor, the busiest railway in the United States, Old Saybrook station only sees a small portion of rail services that pass through the station. Only a select few trains on nation-wide rail service provider Amtrak's Northeast Regional train line stop at Old Saybrook. No high-speed Acela Express trains arrive at the station but stop at the following southbound and northbound stations, New Haven and New London, respectively. Contrary to this, all Shore Line East commuter rail trains stop at Old Saybrook, most as a terminus. [1] However, New London is considered the eastern terminus of the line because pass holders are able to ride express trains to New Haven. In addition, one train daily stops at both Old Saybrook and New London.[1]
Old Saybrook features a rather typical station setup. Unlike other stations on the 81.6km (50.7 mile)[2] stretch of the Northeast Corridor between New Haven and New London (which both feature more than three tracks), there are three tracks at Old Saybrook station, presumably to handle terminal trains on Shore Line East.[2]
