[edit] History and Today
Its corner stone was laid on October 12, 1793. After one century, October 12th was declared to be the birthday of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 1966, this building became one of the national Historical Landmarks.[1]
Today, renovated Old East is still housing male and female students as a dormitory building.
[edit] Culture
The Old Well and Old East, as the earliest buildings in UNC, have long been the symbols of the university. There are some collections of art about Old East and the Old Well in Blowing Rock Art and History Museum, North Carolina as well as in UNC-Chapel Hill's Wilson Library.
