Hello, my name is Odne Andreas Oksavik, and I'm a proud member of Wikipedia.
A friend told me about Wikipedia a long time ago, and I've used it ever since. Every time I search for something Wiki surprises me with it's broad knowledge. Finally I decided to register and perhaps contribute some knowledge of my own.

[edit] Growing up

Until the summer of 2005 I have lived in Larsnes, a small village about an hour of travel from Aalesund. It's a quiet place, and mostly we played football. However, football was not what I would end up playing. You see, we also had a Commandore64, and for as long as I can remember computers and computer-games have been a part of my life, even at an early stage.
The early school was not vere interesting, and honestly I don't remeber very much of it.
During Junior High School I became a Metallica fan, but during my last year there I gradually got into progressive music, mostly Dream Theater to begin with.

When I started at Ulstein High School I finally got some classes that really interested me. Like Physics, more adavanced math and chemistry. During my first year there I made up my mind to continue studying physics. My interest in motorsports and music developed alot during these years, and I watched NASCAR, ChampCar, F3000, but F1 was, and is, my favourite motorsport. Musically I got into alot of progressiv rock/metal bands.
I graduated with good grades, and applied to "Physics and Mathematics", a master-degree at NTNU in Trondheim.

Moving away for the first time in my life was exiting, and with a great apartment here in Trondheim it was not a big problem.
Studiyng at the University is very different from High School, and more challenging. I have now just finished my first year, and I'm very happy with my choice of subjects.

My big passion in music is the American band Dream Theater, which is the reason I got into progressive music in the first place. After a while I found several great bands, Spock's Beard, Pain of Salvation, Transatlantic and Liquid Tension Experiment, all of which is in some way related to Dream Theater. When I moved to Trondheim I started looking back in time, to see how the progessiv genre had developed. There I found great bands, such as Genesis, Pink Floyd, Yes, Van der Graaf Generator and King Crimson. When I got to The Beatles I felt that I had reached the beginning of, or that which would inspire, the great music known as Progressive Rock.

I grew up with computers, the first english words I knew was: attack, guard, build and retreat from Dune II. For a long period of time I played alot of Playstation, and later PS2, but during High School I sort of went from the console to the computer.
I started playing Counter Strike, which I still play once in a while.
For about a year ago I started playing Elastomania, and aside from some BF2 that is the only game that I really like to play. I try out many of the games that are released, but I rarely play them for a long time.
I learned som basic programming in my first term at NTNU, and building on that knowledge I've made a homepage (HERE) that I'm quite happy with. I'm looking forward to learning more about programming.

I have always liked reading books, and at an early age I read several books. It was not until I read Tolkien's Lord of the Rings however that I realized that fantasy books was really cool. I then started reading Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time series, and they are my favourite books. Other great series is Terry Pratchett's Discworld and Frank Herbert's Dune. Non-Fantasy books that I like include Dan Brown books and Tom Clancy.

I have had a thing for motorsport, and formula1 and [rally] in particular, for quite a while.. In F1, my favourite team is McLaren. This season has not been very good, and since it's (probably) [[Kimi Raikonnen]'s last season with the team, I would really liked to see him win, but that was not to be. In rally I cheer (of course) for norwegian Petter Solberg in Subaru, and for his brother Henning Solberg. My interest for WCR have declined the last couple of years.

My brother got me into cycling, and made me see what a great sport it is... For the last couple of years I have cheered for T-mobil, but after the doping scandal with Jan Ullrich I have lost a little faith.. Now I mostly hope that the norwegian cyclist will do well, and Thor Hushovd in particular...

My interest for snooker was sparked by my cousin, and by Eurosport. Now I try to watch it when I can. My favourite players is: Jon Higgins, Ronny O'Sullivan and (after Ireland)Ding Junhui. I have tried playing Snooker a couple of times here in Trondheim, and that makes me realize how incredible good these guys are..
