It is recognised as a Business and Enterprise College and also has Eco School status and the Sportsmark. Oakmeeds takes its name from the oak trees in the school grounds, running along the path of a roman road, and Meeds Pottery, which stood there before Oakmeeds was built. It mainly serves Burgess Hill; but also has students from the nearby villages of Hassocks, Keymer and Hurstpierpoint, as well as the City of Brighton and Hove area. The current headteacher is Colin Taylor B.Ed M.A.

[edit] House System and School Management

Oakmeeds can be divided into four houses. They each have both a "Student Achievement Leader" as well as a "Lead Teacher". "Lead Teachers" interact primarily with other the other Teachers in the house (for in the school Teachers are attributed to a certain house) and the "Student Achievement Leaders" interact primarily with the students. Student Achievement Leaders are known by students and to some extent by staff of the school as Heads of House.

The name refers to Ashdown Forest, and the house colour is green. The tutors in Ashdown typically work in the ICT, Science and Technology departments. The head of house is Mrs Tanner, and the house mascot is the "Ashdown Aligator".

[edit] Beacon

The name Beacon is derived from nearby Ditchling Beacon. The house colour is yellow, and the tutors in this house are from English and Humanities. The mascot for Beacon is the "Beacon Bear", and Student Achievement Leader is Mrs Parnell.

[edit] Caburn

Caburn is so named because of Mount Caburn, which overlooks Lewes, and the house colour is red. Caburn's tutors teach Maths and Modern Foreign Languages. The Student Achievement Leader is Mrs Leaney, and the mascot is the "Caburn Dragon".
