[edit] Academics & Activities

A large aspect of Notre Dame High School is Titan Pride and Involvement. While the Academic program emphasizes a broad experience of the fundamental disciplines, co-curricular offerings encourage and develop the individual talents and interests of students. A great variety of activities and organizations provide the opportunity for the student body to participate:

  • Mocktrial
  • National Honor Society
  • Ohio Model United Nations
  • Pep Club
  • Quiz Bowl
  • Spanish Club
  • Student Council
  • Yearbook

The entire school community is very proud to offer spiritual needs through the open doors of our chapel. The chapel is a statement of beauty and simple elegance with high beamed open ceilings and inspiring stained glass windows.

In helping students gain a better understanding of Jesus' teaching in everyday living, the students are involved in a variety of service projects both inside and outside the classroom. From blood, canned food and clothing drives to festivals and crop walks. Students in all grades participate in various service projects. The seniors provide over 1200 hours of community service in one year. They have the opportunity to work with the others of all ages including the sick and disabled.

History of The Richard T & Paul Doyle Memorial Award In 1947 the members of the Central Catholic Athletic Association faced their greatest challenge. In order to continue an athletic program at Central Catholic High School (later to become Notre Dame High School), the association had to raise $4,000 to provide a coach and purchase the necessary football equipment. Dick Doyle, then president of the Athletic Association, was determined not to let the athletic program at Central Catholic end. He, along with the 18- member Athletic Board, with tremendous support from Rev, Msgr. T. A. Goebel, pastor of St. Mary’s parish and Rev. Leonard P. Falvey, pastor of Holy Redeemer parish, did indeed meet the challenge and accomplish this goal. The much-needed football equipment was purchased, and Pat F. Darone, a recent graduate of Boston College, was hired as head football coach and athletic director. Central Catholic football was to continue but, due to his tragic death on August 20, 1947, Dick Doyle never witnessed what he had worked so hard to accomplish.

Paul Doyle, Brother of Richard T., the Vice-President, assumed the unexpired term of his brother and was later elected president by the Association’s Board of Directors.

He, along with Vice-President, Ott Sand; Secretary, Cliff Hartlage; Treasurer, Ed Butler; and the 18-member Board of Directors, continued their efforts to insure the future of athletics at Notre Dame.

In 1953, the Doyle family established the Richard T. Doyle Memorial Award. Paul presented the award annually until his death in 1984. in 1985, in recognition of paul’s contribution to Notre Dame, the name was changed, and the award became known as the Richard T. and Paul Doyle Memorial Award. The Richard T. and Paul Doyle Award is the most coveted award an athlete at Notre Dame can receive.
