This article is clearly an environmentalist screed, attacking the government. I haven't just removed (or rather, burnt and replaced) the offending sentences because the partisanship of the edits makes me wonder whether the envionmental data given here might be exaggerated or taken out of context here, too. This needs someone who knows what they are talking about to fix. Morwen - Talk

I don't know the details, but I grew up in area and the environmental statements look broadly right and in context to me. Will do some work on this article when I have the data. JackyR 00:00, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

I have examined the page, and except for one sentence, the content seems fine. I am a former member of Medway Council (Labour) and we were very protective of the marshes, though nothing would convince some of the more suspicious locals. The offending sentence is interesting and can be dissembled;

With a flagrant and total disregard for these established facts the incumbent administration in overall control of the British economy (The Labour government) has publicly expressed a view that this area (included in the 'Thames Gateway') should be built upon to the extent that it becomes a suburb of greater London.

It is true that the area is within the Thames gateway proposal region. It is false that there was a flagrant and total disregard. Regard was made, but the decision was made on a greater good criteria. The Thames gateway proposals do not however make a significant inroad into the North Kent Marshes, though with greater population in Kent they will be under more pressure . Little building on the marshes if any is proposed. It is false that they will become a suburb of London, as the Gateway proposals are keener to develop new cities. There is considerable concern within Kent about newbuild, and concern about shortage of water to support the population.

A fairer statement may be.

For centuries, the North Kent Marshes have been threatened with environmental change due to their proximity to London. Inclusion in the Thames Gateway Project is seen as the latest threat.

For that I cite, naval shipbuilding on the Medway, the convictships, British Fleet at the Nore. so that takes it bake 500 years.

"incumbent administration in overall control of the British economy (The Labour government)" What a stupid phrase! How about substituting simply "the British gGovernment"? Emeraude 14:02, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
