Normandykes (Grid Reference: NO8299)(Landranger, 2004) is a Roman Camp situated near the present day town of Peterculter, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.{Temporary, 2004)(St. Joseph, 1951) The site comprises approximately 106 acres and is in proximity to the River Dee.(Crawford, 1949) The Normandykes site lies on the opposite side of the River Dee from the B9077 road. Aerial photography for Normandykes has been archived over the period 1947 to 1976. (RCAHMS, 2004) The Normandykes site lies one days march north from the Raedykes Roman Camp, over a route chosen apparently to avoid the Red Moss, a virtually inpenetrable bog near the present day village of Netherley.(Hogan, 2005) The camp of Normandykes was first excavated in the year 1935 by Richmond and MacIntyre.. (RCAHMS, 2003); the date of the camp is attributed to Antonine or Severan.
