No Room for Magic is a webcomic by Adrian Ramos ("Adis") hosted on Keenspot. The comic began on September 1, 2005, and was written and drawn by Ramos except for a week of strips drawn by Reed Hawker (October 3-8). The March 9, 2006 strip was followed by a short hiatus; the strip resumed on April 11 2006 with a new regular artist, Veronika Mischitz ("VĂ©ro"). Scheduling in 2006 was always erratic. Ramos and Mischitz announced a hiatus in December of that year but promised that the comic would return "with a bang". [2] However, it was not until March 6 2008 that the comic finally returned [3]. It was once more written and drawn by Ramos solo, and with the story arc dropped in favor of a gag-a-day format.
[edit] Characters
(Includes some plot description related to characters)
- Magic McAllister: The eponymous protagonist, Magic is a schoolgirl who hates the fact that she lives in a world full of fantasy creatures. Magic wears a black t-shirt with a skull motif. In strips drawn by Ramos she resembles a slightly older and more cynical version of Katie from Ramos's other webcomic Count Your Sheep, but in Mischitz's strips she develops a more distinctive look. The 2006 'arc' strips develop a storyline in which Magic receives a golden ticket making her a poster girl for the world of Fantasy, much to her disgust. It turns out that this is in response to a prophecy which states that Fantasy is in danger of going bankrupt.
- Bardolph McAllister: Magic's father, a sterotypical wizard.
- Uncle Chris / Kristopher: Bardolph's brother, aka Santa Claus. Apparently not quite as jolly or harmless as he is usually portrayed. For instance, Magic is under a restraining order to stay at least 50 feet away from him , and he later untertakes an abduction (see below).
- Billy McAllister: Magic's brother. Unlike Magic he is enthusiastic about living in a fantasy world and hopes to become a dragon-slaying knight when he grows up, despite the fact that he is actually fond of dragons.
- Roy: a boy in Magic's class, turned into a werewolf by his father in order to help him survive gym lessons. This has also helped with his shyness, although he also feels compelled to sniff stangers' backsides.
- Maggie: a girl at Magic's school with freckles and braces. Maggie has such a crush on Billy that she asks Chris to kidnap him for her. She later develops a relationship with Roy, but this is apparently temporary since she is later described by Magic as "Billy's stalker/groupie".
- Hoodie: another of Magic's school friends, aka Little Red Riding Hood. She is apparently unaware that the "Granny" who raised her was in fact the Wolf.
- Tanya Luthien: or as Magic calls her, "Tinkersmell". A fairy with attitude, Magic's school enemy.
- The Wizards' Council: a group of wizards, most recently convened to discuss the prophecy in which Magic plays a reluctant part.
- Guild: a boy band with a fantasy image. Magic thinks their music sucks, but doesn't care because they're cute.
