Nisha Millet

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nisha Millet (Kannada: ನಿಶಾ ಮಿಲೆಟ್) is a swimmer from Chennai, Tamil Nadu and later Bangalore, Karnataka, India. Nisha Millet, and the Arjuna Award winner, was the only woman in the 2000 Sydney Olympics swim team for India.

She started her swimming in Tamil Nadu and then moved to Bangalore for better options in swimming coaching. Millet started swimming in 1991 at the age of 9, won her first medal in 1992 at the sub junior nationals and then progressed on to represent India at various competitions culminating with the Olympics qualifier at Sydney 2000. She is the only Indian sports person to have won 14 gold medals ever at the 1999 national games held at Manipur and win the prime ministers "Best Sportswoman" award twice.

She had retired from a professional swimming career which spanned 16 years with over 600 gold medals at various domestic and international competitions. Although retired from the field of professional swimming, she can now be found taking swimming classes for both adults and kids at a variety of clubs in Bangalore such as Catholic Club. She is also involved with setting up a coaching facility primarily for swim coaching so as to improve the levels of coaching in the country.
