User talk:NikoSilver/Signature shop/Ian13

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Okay, now if possible I am after a signature (one which is VERY short (in code), no images etc...) any ideas? Ian13/talk 18:55, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

I don't use images by principle (except for my sock above), as I can understand the server burden thing. I am full of ideas Ian, just please define "VERY short". :-) :NikoSilver: 21:07, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Just out of the top of my head, and with no instructions at all:

IAN¹³

Do you like it? I am not sure if < big> shows better or worse in various other screen-modes, we'll have to check, or the alternative would be to use ...font+1..., which will increase code length a little bit.:NikoSilver: 12:55, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

PS: I changed the font because I hate how upper-case "i" resembles lower-case "L" in Arial. We wouldn't want people to confuse you for LAN now, would we? :-)

As long as I am not confused for EAN13 I don't mind ;) That sig is quite nice. I would quite like a distinct green - a colour someone can recognise me by. <big> can be a pain for some screens, and I would like to keep away from some of the sortof squareness of that font if possible. Thanks! Ian13/talk 13:10, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Cool. Got rid of bigs and courier, added green:

—IAN13

Note, we can't avoid double code for green, coz it doesn't allow inter-wiki-link jumping [sic]. So probably you like:

—IAN13

... for shorter. Hmm? You want me to try other shades of green too? :NikoSilver: 13:24, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Jesus! I forgot te small-caps thingy you seem to like so much!

—Ian13

Ok. Now?:NikoSilver: 13:54, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Oh, getting quite nice. I just had a little fiddle with that and some ideas I had and came up with:

Ian13/t

And the code size isn't too bad either. Ian13/talk 13:57, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Or, I could drop the small-caps:

Ian13/t

Making it shorter... Ian13/talk 14:01, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Infact, making the 't' for talk in capitals emulates the small caps thing:

Ian13/T

Ian13/talk 14:02, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Wait, the underline, seems broken (up and down) in my screen. I suggest, if you do want it, to use it only for IAN. Like this:

Ian13/T

See? I shortened the code using < u>/< /u> too! Personally I prefered it when 13 linked to talk, but it's the customer's needs we aim to please here! :NikoSilver: 14:08, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

PS: I mean like that (which is even shorter):

—Ian13

Ah good point about the underlining stuff, in IE it seems weird too. I rather like your new code, rather cryptic ;) Anyway, I've gont for the /T option 'coz I rather like it for some reason. Thanks for all your help and ideas! Ian13/T 14:13, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
Infact I have changed to Ian13/T since it seems the was doing weird things with line height. Ian13/T 14:16, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
And made the 13 smaller once more. Ian13/T 14:18, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
Oh, got another method from one of your ideas above. Ian¹³/T 14:20, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
And I think I am going to have to use small-caps to make the line size right. Thanks for your help! Ian¹³/t 14:32, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Glad I could help. Could I offer an alternative?

 Ian¹³ /talk

Like it or dump the idea? :NikoSilver: 10:10, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

Also maybe check:

Ian¹³/t --vs-- Ian¹³/t

...where small-caps are also used in Ian (not only in /t). This helps also for distinguishing L from i, since you couldn't possibly capitalise a name like tHIS. :NikoSilver: 10:29, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

Hmm, well, I personally prefer to have it all starting in [[User:Ian13| and ending somewhere with ]]. --Ian¹³/t 13:26, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

In that case, you'll have to repeat the small-caps code like this:

Ian¹³/t

It's not such a big deal in code size... :NikoSilver: 13:37, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
