Nikifor Begichev

Nikifor Alekseevich Begichev (Russian: Никифор Алексеевич Бегичев; 1874-1927) was a Russian seaman and polar explorer.
He was a participant of the Arctic expedition of Eduard Toll in 1900-02 as the bosun of ship Zarya. Later he took part in the Russo-Japanese War. In 1922 Nikifor Begichev led a Soviet expedition in search for crew members of Roald Amundsen Peter Tessem and Paul Knutsen on request of the government of Norway, but he was not successful.
Begichev was one of the researchers exploring the Taymyr Peninsula. During his explorations he discovered two islands, which have beeen called after him: Bolshoy Begichev Island and Maliy Begichev Island.
