Nightline is the name of the National Nine News' late-night bulletin. It airs at around 11.30 pm weeknights. Its regular presenter is Michael Usher. Its main competitors are Ten's Late News and ABC News's Lateline which both air prior to Nightline on Nine's standard-definition channel. However, Nightline is also broadcast at 10:30pm on Nine HD. The program is recorded around 10:00pm AEST and goes to air at 11:30pm.
The series was patterned after the version that airs on ABC (US), but that one is different from the Australian counterpart even though at one point both versions used the same opening graphics, which both no longer use.

[edit] Presentation
Nightline's opening sequence uses the same generic city buildings of the National Nine News opener, except that they are shown at night instead. Nightline also uses its own arrangement of the National Nine News theme. The set for the bulletin uses Chroma key, with the keyed background usually being a live shot of Sydney at night.
