Nick Schultz (born August 25, 1982, in Strasbourg, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player.

[edit] Junior career
Schultz played in the WHL for the Prince Albert Raiders. Before joining the Raiders, Nick played for Yorkton in the SMAAAHL.[1] He spent three seasons with the Raiders. During this time, he also participated in the World Junior Hockey Championships twice, in 2001 and 2002.

Nick Schultz was selected in the second round, 33rd overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft by the Minnesota Wild. He is 6'1" tall, weighs 207 lbs, shoots left and plays as a defenceman. He was selected for the Canadian team for the 2006 World Championships.
Over the course of his career Schultz has evolved into a defensive unsung hero for the Wild. He is known for his durability and defensive skills that often go unmentioned, such as shot blocking and excellent defensive positioning. In his career with the Wild, Schultz has only missed one game due to injury, in February of 2002 [2]. He was a member of the 2007 Canadian IIHF World Championship team that won gold in a 4–2 win against Finland in Moscow. Team Canada rotated alternate captains throughout the tournament, Schultz wound up wearing an 'A' during the final game.
Schultz was a restricted free agent after the 2006–07 NHL season. He had hoped to negotiate a long term deal with the Wild, but when that failed to materialize, he signed a 1-year contract worth $1.85 million. This leaves him the option of negotiating another deal with the Wild, but also opens up the possibility of obtaining unrestricted free agent status after the 2007–08 season. He has now been signed for 6 more years with the Wild. [3] .

Schultz grew up on his family's farm in Strasbourg, Saskatchewan. He has two older brothers one of whom, Kris, played professional hockey in the CHL and UHL. His other brother is named Terrance, and his parent's names are Robert and Carol [2]. His cousin Jesse Schultz made his NHL debut late in the 2005–06 season, and plays in the Vancouver Canucks system. Nick is married, his wife's name is Jessica (nee Dibb). They have a son, Jake Douglas, born in October 2007.[4] They make their off-season home in Calgary. Jessica's sister is also married to an NHL player, Cory Sarich of the Calgary Flames.[5] He is friends with Jarret Stoll of the Edmonton Oilers and is often present at Stoll's yearly charity golf tournament.[6]
