Nick Holt (born October 15, 1962) is an American football coach, currently the defensive coordinator and defensive line coach of the USC Trojans. He was formerly the head coach of the University of Idaho Vandals.

Nick Holt attended high school at Bellarmine College Preparatory in San Jose, where he played football and baseball. He attended the University of the Pacific in Stockton, where he played linebacker. Holt lettered in football for four years, and in his final season of 1985 was an All-American honorable mention, Pacific's MVP and a team captain. He graduated in 1986.

In 1986, Holt served as the head coach at St. Mary's High School in Stockton. In 1987 he moved to Las Vegas to coach linebackers at UNLV, serving as a graduate assistant during the first season. In 1991 Holt moved north to serve as the defensive line coach at Idaho under John L. Smith, then Chris Tormey. In 1998 he east moved to Louisville to coach the defensive line under John L. Smith again. After the 2000 season, Holt moved west to Los Angeles to coach the linebackers at USC under Pete Carroll.

Following the 2003 season, Holt was hired as the head coach at Idaho; the Vandals went 3-9 in 2004 and 2-9 in 2005. During his tenure a game was scheduled between the Vandals and his former Trojans for September 1, 2007.[1] In addition to ties to the school, Holt decided to take the game because it offered an opportunity to increase visibility to recruits in the region as well earn the school $600,000 for the appearance.[2] However, despite a contract that ran through 2008, Holt would not stay with the Vandals long enough to see the game as their head coach.

When former Idaho quarterback and alumnus Scott Linehan became head coach of the NFL's St. Louis Rams, he offered Holt a position as his defensive line coach. Deciding to make a move before his children entered high school, Holt resigned from Idaho on February 6, 2006 to take a position with the Rams. After hearing the news, Carroll offered his former assistant more money and the position of defensive coordinator; and a day after resigning he declined the new position (he had not signed a contract) to return to USC, taking over defensive coordinator responsibilities from head coach Pete Carroll.[2]

Holt is married with two sons. His wife, Julie, was the college basketball coach at several Division I schools. His grandfather was athlete-turned-actor Buster Crabbe, who was an All-American swimmer at USC and a gold medalist in the 400 m freestyle at the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
