Several people were known as Nicholas of Russia or Nikolai Romanov.

  • Nicholas Pavlovich (1796-1855), third son of Emperor Paul I and Tsaritsa Maria Fedorovna - and younger brother of Emperor Alexander I, ascended 1825 as Emperor Nicholas I
  • Nicholas Alexandrovich (1843-65), eldest son of Emperor Alexander II (1st son of Nicholas I) and Tsaritsa Maria Alexandrovna, named after his grandfather Nicholas I during whose reign he was born, and died as Tsarevich during the reign and lifetime of his father, thus never succeeding. Was engaged to Dagmar of Denmark, who after his death was engaged and then married to his next brother, the future Alexander III.
  • Nicholas Alexandrovich (1868-1918), eldest son of Emperor Alexander III and Tsaritsa Maria Fedorovna, great-grandson of Nicholas I, ascended 1894 as Emperor Nicholas II
  • Nicholas Constantinovich (1850-1918), eldest son of Grand Duke Constantin Nicolaievich (2nd son of Nicholas I) and Alexandra Josifovna of Saxe-Altenburg, grandson of Nicholas I, married morganatically.
  • Nicholas Nicolaievich (1831-91), third son of Emperor Nicholas I and Tsaritsa Alexandra Fedorovna, husband of Alexandra Petrovna of Oldenburg:
  • Nicholas Nicolaievich (1856-1929), eldest son of Grand Duke Nicholas Nicolaievich (above, 3rd son of Nicholas I) and Alexandra Petrovna of Oldenburg, grandson of Nicholas I, husband of Anastasia Nicolaievna of Montenegro, "Stana Petrovic-Njegosh", childless
  • Nicholas Mikhailovich (1859-1919), eldest son of Grand Duke Mikhail Nicolaievich (4th son of Nicholas I) and Olga Fedorovna of Baden, grandson of Nicholas I. Unmarried.
  • Nicholas Romanovich (born 1922), great-grandson of 5 and great-nephew of 6, uses the contested titulary Prince Nicholas of Russia but, as far as has been ascertained, never has used the titulary Grand Duke Nicholas of Russia. A claimant to the headship of the Romanov Imperial Family
