ON RESEARCH: Research, in my experience, is the passion of passions. Like cotton candy, it's ALL THAT THERE IS while I'm doing it, and when I'm not doing it, I forget. I forget how good it felt, and how excited I was to unearth good data. When I come back to it, I wonder why I waited so long, why I'm not doing it all the time, why libraries don't rent rooms to people like me so we can work 24/7. And I'm thankful, then, for the internet, bringing the world into MY room. I research mennonite history and in March, 2007 I began putting it together: 30 years' work on and off. My oldest notes are as good as they were meant to be, a wonderful discovery and I'm glad I kept my nose to the grindstone at the time and did it properly. Like Descartes, I made my own pretty thing!
