NHL on TSN
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
NHL on TSN is TSN's broadcast of National Hockey League games. The show's current incarnation debuted in 2002. They usually televise three or four games per week during the regular season, with their primary night being Wednesdays, when they enjoy exclusive coverage. This means that no other NHL game may be broadcast in Canada while TSN's Wednesday Night Hockey is on the air. During the playoffs, TSN has the rights to all series not involving Canadian teams in the first two rounds. They also get partial coverage of one conference final.

[edit] History
Prior to 1998, when CTV Sportsnet purchased the national rights to NHL games, TSN owned the rights from 1987–88 through 1997–98. They usually showed games twice per week through the regular season and in the first round of the playoffs they provided extensive coverage of series not involving Canadian-based teams.
[edit] Past personalities
The studio hosts were Jim Van Horne and later John Wells, with Bob McKenzie providing studio analysis. Primary play-by-play broadcasters were Jim Hughson (1987–88 to 1993–94) and Paul Romanuk (1994–95 to 1997–98). Colour commentators were Roger Neilson (1987–88 to 1988–89) and Gary Green (1989–90 to 1997–98). Howie Meeker was also often part of the game-night crew, providing highlights and analysis with the telestrator.
[edit] Maple Leaf Nation
Along with NHL games shown across Canada, TSN also airs select Toronto Maple Leafs games, presented by Molson, in the area defined by the NHL as Maple Leaf Nation. Maple Leaf Nation, is defined as...
- The broadcast boundaries for TSN's regional Leafs games are set by the NHL with the interests of all of the league's teams in mind. TSN is contractually obligated to follow the rules set by our NHL partners. The boundaries for most games are roughly defined as follows: Leafs' Region -- Ontario (excluding the Ottawa Senators' region). All of Ontario west of the approximate boundary from Brighton to Petawawa, is the regional Maple Leafs broadcast territory. NOTE: When another network broadcasts an NHL game coast-to-coast, the NHL restricts our regional broadcasts to within a 50-mile radius of the arena where the game is taking place. This is not TSN's decision. In both cases we must legally comply with the rules set by the NHL. [2]
Those within Maple Leaf Nation who receive TSN on analog cable will receive TSN2, the alternate broadcast the network provides, while the remainder of Canada receives the national feed of TSN. On satellite, an alternate channel number is used for Toronto.
Regional Leafs games are broadcasted by Joe Bowen, Greg Millen, and Glenn Healy.
