The NHL Foundation Player Award is awarded annually to the National Hockey League player "who applies the core values of hockey – commitment, perseverance and teamwork – to enrich the lives of people in his community".[1] The winner is given a grant of $25,000 to further causes the winner supports.[2] It was first awarded in 1998 and has been won by eleven players. The recipient of the NHL Foundation Player Award is decided by a panel that consists of NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and NHL executives Pat Flatley, Bernadette Mansur and Kenneth Martin, Jr.[1]
