[edit] Route description

NY 276 begins at U.S. Route 11 in the town of Champlain just east of the Champlain. The route heads northeast for 2 miles (3.2 km) to the Canadian border, where it intersects the de facto southern terminus of Quebec Route 221. Instead of continuing into Quebec, NY 276 turns east, straddling the border for just over 1 mile (1.6 km) before turning south toward the village of Rouses Point.

The route enters the village as Church Street, but turns east at its first intersection within the village onto Pratt Street. NY 276 remains on Pratt for three blocks before terminating at US 11 (Lake Street) on the shores of Lake Champlain.

NY 276 is also a truck route because there is a low-clearance railroad overpass at US 11.[4]

[edit] History

The entirety of NY 276 was originally designated as part of NY 348 by 1947.[5] When NY 348 was truncated to Chazy on its northern end in the 1960s, the former routing of NY 348 between Champlain and Rouses Point was renumbered to NY 276.[2][3]
