[edit] Route description
NY 169 begins at an intersection with NY 5S in the town of Little Falls. The route meets the New York State Thruway (Interstate 90) by way of a roadway leading over NY 5S to exit 29A soon afterward. Farther north, NY 169 enters the Little Falls city limits south of the Mohawk River (Erie Canal). The route traverses the waterway before joining with NY 5 and NY 167 for 0.25 miles (0.40 km) into downtown (the overlap with the latter is a wrong-way concurrency).
In downtown Little Falls, NY 169 leaves the concurrency at East Main Street. Here, an erroneous assembly exists for northbound NY 170. NY 169 veers onto Main, which becomes a one-way pair at Albany Street. NY 169 northbound remains on Main; meanwhile, NY 169 southbound is shifted one block south onto Albany. At Ann Street, the two directions of NY 169 converge to follow Ann north to Monroe Street. East Monroe (to the east) is the southern terminus of NY 170, and West Monroe (to the west) carries NY 169 out of the city.
Southbound in Little Falls, as NY 169 turns left on Albany Street from North Ann Street, it abuts northbound NY 167, which approaches the same intersection from the west along Albany Street. It then turns south on Ann Street to join NY 5 east.
After a few miles of winding highway, NY 169 ends in Middleville at NY 28 and the western terminus of NY 29.
[edit] History
Based on reference markers, it appears that NY 169 may have started in downtown, and extended southward to give the city access to the Thruway.
